About
Once upon a time there was a little girl and her grandmother (Yia Yia) called her Becca. She played in the remnants of fabrics that her mother and Yia Yia accumulated from sewing for the family and also publicly. Becca started out using remnant pieces as flannel board story figures, then fashioning clothes for her dolls. Becca started her first sewing project when she was eight years old, making a bean bag toy frog. When she was ten years old, mother decided that it was time to learn how to operate a sewing machine and Becca learned to create simple quilt squares. Then when she grew accustomed to the sewing machine, mother taught her how to make simple clothing items.
One day, her mother said, "Rebecca, If you want shorts for the summer, then you need to go into my trunk and pick you out some fabric! My hands are full caring for you children." So, Becca opened mother's trunk and saw two bolts of double knit fabric; one was lime green and the other one was neon orange!
Sewing seemed to be an industry of necessity and Becca didn't feel much of an interest for it untill she started working for So-Fro Fabrics as a fabric cutter after she graduated from High School. Customers started asking her to sew for them and she would help them choose what they needed from their pattern instructions. Her first 'job' was creating a "Rainbow Bright" costume and Becca loved doing it because 1. She was helping someone who really needed assistance and she could help. And 2. It was really fun! Becca was hooked!
Becca stared sewing again and made clothes to wear to college and then with the support and backing of her mother, created a Tudor style Renaissance gown from emerald green brocade with a gold metallic jacquard print inlay. It truly was her masterpiece. Becca entered a costume contest event and won 1st place for ladies' entry. She went on to work in the theatrical costume industry for the former Robert Schmidt Costumes that was located at Bates and Virginia Streets in Saint Louis, Missouri in the early 1990's for Jo Gallagher, who was no doubt a great mentor and influnce to her.
Her love for costuming and helping others create their dreams continues. Becca follows her family's tradition of sewing for family and friends (old and new) creating fun things as well as needful ones. Recently, Becca took part in a costume project for a summer play and the fun is never ending~!!!

Sew Becca! has been created to provide service to others with various sewing needs such as alterations, clothing construction, costuming, repairwork, and making quilts, even working on a special needs project that one may have.
Sewing is construction. There has to be a trained and experienced artisan in order to build something that stands 'the test'. Plans and 'blueprints' (patterns) are used. Tools and machinery are also utilized by someone who is trained to use them properly. Hard work and effort is also used in order to bring about the desired outcome by the desired deadlies.
It is work. The sewing industry may not always be regarded as such, but none the less, there is not a person on this planet who has not been affected by it in one way or the other.
Sew Becca! takes each individual order respectfully as if it were one's own. There is great attention to detail on each project, as well as detailed records for each individual customer. Each individual customer receives respect and can enjoy the ease of being regarded as a fellow earthling and member of the human family.
Sew Becca! is owned and operated by Rebecca Lawson,of Kansas City, Missouri. It is a small business with great hopes for growth and a bright future ahead! One of Rebecca's visions is having this company to pass onto her children one day.
One day, while Rebecca was working, a thought came into her mind: "I feel like I'm always helping someone with their their business, and achieving their goals- and I don't do anything about my goals or pursuing my dreams,..." and then the BIG thought came- "I need to start my own company, my own business,... doing something I am good at, doing something where I can use my talents, doing something that is, "so--me! So-- Becca!!!" Then she
paused and then realized that she SEWS and she does very well. But she had forgotten about that-- something that had always been apart of her.(even in childhood). Actually, it was her very first occupation and trade that her mother and grandmothers had given to her! "What a legacy!" "Sew Becca!" was born that very instant. She went home and started the planning, organizing, and everything that goes into creating something REAL!
Inspiration came in the middle of the night, goals and desires and forgotten dreams just started swimming and darting about like little fishes let loose out of a net! Something that was once trapped within was then set free and able to do what was meant to be~!
Sew Becca! is unique just as each and every person is. Every artisan has their own personality and flair. See for yourself if this is the right place for you to have your work done. You are dealing with a person who has lived life and has experience. There is a human side here. Rebecca's mother passed away from a cerebral tumor in April of 2007 and the quilt you see in the "Services" section is a memory quilt that she made using some clothing articles of her mothers. A vintage evening gown (aqua sparkly fabric) and fabric from some pajamas. There is also some fabric used of her great grandmother's mu-mu (red hybiscus) that was worn at a family luau in the 1960's. Family is so very important to Becca! She would love to have you be a part of her family!
